I couldn’t have said it better.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story and it pops up in my head so many times. Thanks for reposting it. I’m reading it now with my two sons heading into their last years of highschool and it’s already bittersweet.

That colonoscopy piece by Catherine is the funniest thing I have *ever* read. And ditto on this one, I remembered it as soon as I saw the link. 💓 Catherine Newman, you are a gem and always make me feel more human in the best way.

I adore the baby and toddler stage and slightly fear the tween and teen years, but this helps so much.

I also read this when it first came out and my son was 11. He’s now 18 and has made the decision to go away for university this fall, and while it’s only/thankfully an hour and a half ferry ride away, I’m (quietly) grieving the loss of him in our home every day. I’m generally not a teary person, but number 20 got me. Thank you for re-posting, and for being my daily midweek lunchtime ritual these many years.
