This made me tear up. I had my first baby almost a year and a half ago, and I’ve been really struggling with the changes to my body and the fact that they seem to be sticking around. I’ve also been working with my therapist on undoing all the trauma I didn’t realize I had after being raised by a mother with an eating disorder, something she still struggles with to this day. I hope one day to get to this level of joy about my body.

This post is making me think. I was going to write what other’s have said they liked about me. Once in college a friend said I had a pretty forehead, someone in high school said I had nice legs But… I can’t think what is the part of me I like the most. I think about what I like about my children and husband regularly. However, I have not allowed myself to think about what I like the most about the way I look. It’s almost like not having permission to reflect on that question. I have homework now…

I took up pole dancing three years ago when I was 41 and the thing I like the most about myself is also my muscles – and agree about never too late, most of the people in my classes are also much younger, but I feel as strong, which is cool. It’s great to feel so lithe, and know I can do hard, painful things. I also have great veins and I like my jaw :)

I have puffy under-eyes that I didn’t like much until my wonderful high school boyfriend unprompted told me he “really liked.” Also, I’m an orthodontist, and I want to remind everyone that the most beautiful part of a smile is using it.
