Get started nowWelcome to the future of social media
Bluesky is one of the platforms ushering in a new era of social media — and that era is decentralized. In other words, no single company “owns” your audience and your content. You do.
But what does that mean, exactly?
Bluesky and other decentralized platforms (like Mastodon) are built on open protocols that make them interoperable (read: able to talk to each other).
Mastodon, Threads, and more are part of an ecosystem called the fediverse [federated + universe] built on the same ActivityPub protocol. If users on, say, Threads, opt in, their content will be visible on Mastodon, and other networks like this. Their content and audience transcend the platform they originated on. Bluesky is built on a different open protocol, AT Protocol, which the company plans to federate, too, so other networks can be built atop it.
Buffer can help bridge the gaps between these two new, decentralized worlds. With Buffer’s tools, you have a central hub to manage all your decentralized social media accounts. This means more control, better organization, and seamless cross-posting to ensure your message reaches a wider audience. Your content, your audience, on the fediverse and beyond.

Bluesky, which was created by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, is built on a decentralized network, meaning no single entity controls the platform. This provides users with greater freedom and control over their content, ensuring a more open and transparent social media experience. It was an invite-only social network until February 2024, but now it’s open to anyone who wants to sign up. As of June 2024, it’s amassed nearly 6 million users–and just keeps growing by the day!
It functions much in the same way that Twitter does, you can click a Post symbol to write and share 300 characters and include photos, and users can reply, repost, and like posts.
Yes, Buffer is the perfect tool to schedule posts to Bluesky and all your other social media accounts, for free. With Buffer you can also plan, draft, create, and edit you content–and even analyze your content’s performance once it’s been published, making it the perfect tool to help you at every step of your social media management process.
You can immediately start scheduling your Bluesky content through Buffer by creating a free Buffer account and connecting your Bluesky account (or any other social account). Sign up for free today!
Like our other channels, Buffer’s AI assistant can be used to help suggest new ideas or your refine your posts. But it’s entirely optional. Your posts are not automatically generated, changed, or tweaked by the AI. The AI Assistant is a standalone feature — Buffer is not an AI tool, and all our core features (posting, scheduling, planning, and more) aren’t AI-powered.
We use OpenAI’s Large Language Models to provide AI-powered responses and assistance. If you use AI Assistant to generate ideas or refine a post, the text you enter into the assistant will be shared with OpenAI. No other information (your account details, media files, or any other part of your post or work in Buffer) is shared.
With Buffer, you can schedule Bluesky text-only posts and posts with images, GIFs, links, or threads.
Absolutely! Buffer not only helps in content scheduling, but also:
